Jai’s story

Jai is one of our young volunteers, who kindly offered to help the fundraising team during her studies. Here is her volunteering story.

I started my volunteering journey at Challengers when I was at school. I was keen to help a local charity and make a difference to families in need, and to benefit from gaining valuable experience for my CV and university applications.

I enjoyed taking part in different activities as part of my volunteering. These included helping the fundraising team at street collections, and offering a gift wrapping service at Christmas to raise money for the charity.

Everything I’ve done at Challengers has supported me to develop my interpersonal skills – helping to strenghten my experiences and guide me through my university applications.

I recently received my A level results and was delighted to find out that I will be going to study Medicine at the University of Plymouth from September!

I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone at Challengers for giving me the opportunity to learn and grow through my volunteering. Not only did I have lots of fun with the friendly team, I learnt so much and gained new skills and confidence – both of which are invaluable.

I could not have achieved my dreams of going to Medical School without the support of Challengers.
