Guildford Parkrun Turns Orange: A Wet but Wonderful Day in Support of Challengers!

Written by Lucy Hill

On Saturday, October 21st, the Guildford Parkrun at Stoke Park took on a vibrant shade of orange as participants gathered for a special event dedicated to supporting Challengers, and what a day it turned out to be!

Despite the pouring rain, the Guildford Parkrun saw approximately 200 resilient participants, including Challengers parents, children, and supporters, eagerly taking on the 5km course. The enthusiasm and camaraderie prevailed as participants walked, jogged, and slid through the mud, undeterred by the weather.

The Guildford Parkrun is known for being a free, fun, and friendly weekly 5km event, and this day was no exception. The course, consisting of 2 laps around Stoke Park, allowed participants to choose their pace, whether walking, jogging, or running.

Volunteers did a fabulous job at the Bake Sale, despite the challenging weather conditions. Even with rain pouring down, the tempting sweet treats became the highlight of the day, with more than a few runners asking if we would be back every week!

In the end, the wet weather couldn’t dampen the generosity of the participants. The Guildford Parkrun managed to raise over £600 from this soggy yet spirited fundraising event.

Every pound raised goes directly back into Challengers, supporting local disabled children and enabling them to have fun, make friends, and try new activities.

A big thank you extends to Guildford Parkrun for their invaluable support in making this event possible.

Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and contributed. Let’s look forward to more moments of community, fun, and support in the future!
