On Friday 23 January the 555 Guildford team were thrilled to welcome two very important visitors for a morning of baking and play.
Rt. Hon. Sir Ed Davey, Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton and leader of the Liberal Democrats and Zoe Franklin, Liberal Democrat MP for Guildford spent a lovely, relaxed morning meeting the children and staff.
After a welcome from CEO Gen Dearman and Chair of Trustee Board Russell Harvey, Ed and Zoe joined the children for the baking of some very delicious fairy cakes. It was an extremely joyful interaction for everyone, with smiles all round.
When they finally had to tear themselves away from the fun, Ed and Zoe spent some time speaking with various members of the press, which included the Press Association (which resulted in Challengers being featured on ITN news website), Surrey Live, Greatest Hits Radio and BBC Radio Surrey.

Ed Davey was quoted saying to Surrey Live:
[Challengers is a] “fantastic charity supporting children and young people with disabilities and special education needs and helping their families, and it’s been great to celebrate them.” – Ed Davey
And just when we thought they were leaving, Ed and Zoe asked whether the cakes had been baked and could they come back in to see the children for a taste! How could we say no?! The children and team were fantastic – and with Ed and Zoe being so warm, relaxed and friendly it made for a wonderful, special visit.
We think you’ll agree just from these joyous photos 😊
