Meet Celia

Mum Gemma tells us about her daughter Celia who has Down’s Syndrome and her experience of coming to Challengers.

Celia is like any other 4 year old – curious, energetic, and loves to play! She has Down’s Syndrome, and when she first came to Challengers in November 2019 she wasn’t able to communicate, walk or play independently, and needed support at all times.

Thanks to Challengers’ highly trained Pre-school team who are experienced in working with children with differing abilities, the level of support Celia needed was quickly reduced and she has thrived as a result.

It has been a joy to see how independent Celia has become since joining Challengers. She is now able to walk, dance and even run with confidence.

She has made friends who love her for who she is, and who don’t treat her any differently despite her differences.

Her communication has come on leaps and bounds thanks to the hard work of staff, and she can sign using Makaton to help explain what she wants and needs.

I love that Celia is always included at Challengers and gets to play with disabled and non-disabled children at Pre-school.

Challengers has given her and our family so much.
