Challengers is a charity dedicated to transforming the lives of disabled children and young people through the power of play. We provide inclusive, fun, and safe spaces across the South East where children aged 5–18 can make friends, enjoy new experiences, and develop vital life skills. ABOUT THE ROLE –
We are looking for a talented, passionate person to join our team who can drive our financial performance ensuring we are in the best position possible at all times.
You will be responsible for overseeing the charity’s financial management, governance and control. Working closely with the CEO and Trustees, you will lead budgeting, reporting, risk management and day-to-day finance operations, while ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements. You will provide clear financial insight to support decision-making, manage a small finance team, and contribute to organisational growth, including tendering activity. The role also has oversight of IT and data security, working with external providers to ensure systems are secure and effective, and will help shape and strengthen the finance function as the organisation evolves.
You’ll be great if you:
- Are a qualified accountant with at least three years’ experience in a financial or management accounting role, including hands-on preparation of budgets, year-end and published accounts, and working with auditors
- Have proven experience in a similar role, with the ability to manage day-to-day finance operations and lead a small team effectively
- Have strong financial modelling skills, confidence using Windows-based systems and databases, and the ability to improve processes and reporting
- Have excellent communication skills, able to build trusted relationships with trustees, senior leaders, auditors and a wide range of stakeholders
- Have an understanding of, or commitment to learning about, the not-for-profit environment, including IT systems, project delivery and the challenges facing disabled children, young people and their families
