Celebrating Team Orange: Where Inclusion and Play Shine Brightest

Beyond the sea of orange T-shirts, events and celebrations, Orange October is a chance to shine a light on the values that drive us, the community that supports us, and the joy and inclusion that are at the heart of everything we do.

In anticipation of our brightest month, we sat down with our CEO to reflect on what makes this time of year so special for Challengers. Here’s what Gen had to say…

Central to that belief is The Challengers Approach. Our five values – Truly Inclusive, Ambitious Together, Trustworthy, Serious about Play, Person-centred – aren’t just words on a wall. They guide every decision we make, how we support families; how we train our team; and how we grow as an organisation. When a child participates in one of our play sessions, it isn’t just about physical access, it’s about being welcomed; being valued; having their voice heard. That’s the Challengers Approach in action.

Our work culture underpins all this. We strive for a culture where everyone feels respected, supported and able to grow. Only if our team feels strong, safe and inspired, can we offer our very best to the children, young people and families who trust us.

So, this Orange October, let’s not only celebrate with colour and fun, but also reflect on why we do this work, what we stand for, and how together we can make possible real, positive change.

Thank you to every member of Team Orange – you are what makes Challengers not only a charity, but a home of hope, belonging and joy.
