Celebrating the Power of Community at Our Guildford Open Day

There was a wonderful sense of community in the air on Saturday morning as volunteers, supporters, families and friends gathered at our Guildford centre for our Community Open Day.

The event was an opportunity to pause and celebrate the people who make Challengers what it is. From long-standing volunteers and community supporters to local councillors and families, it was lovely to see so many people come together, reconnect, and learn more about the impact we create together.

Guests enjoyed the chance to meet the team, look around the centre and share a buffet lunch, while hearing stories that brought the importance of community support to life. Parent Ambassador Natasha Morris spoke movingly about what Challengers means to her family and the difference it has made to their lives. Chair of the Board of Trustees Russell Harvey reflected on the vital role volunteers play in our charity and presented certificates and lanyards to recognise their contribution over the past year.

As conversations flowed and new connections were made, there was a shared sense of what can be achieved when people come together with a common purpose. Every hour volunteered, every donation given and every act of support helps create transform the lives of disabled children, young people and their families.

Events like this are a reminder that no one person creates change alone. It happens because of a community of people who care, who give their time and energy, and who believe in a more inclusive future. To everyone who joined us on the day, thank you for being part of Team Orange and helping us continue to build a community where every child belongs.
