The Weyside to support Challengers as their charity partner
Challengers are delighted to be The Weyside’s new charity partner! Community Fundraising Manager Cader welcomed Nigel and Celine from the Weyside to our Guildford Playcentre recently to show them Challengers in action.
Here’s what Celine had to say about our exciting new partnership:
“We are very excited to create a partnership with Challengers here at the Weyside. We have chosen Challengers as they are so local to us and are very active within our community. We are impressed by the range of essential services that they provide for disabled young people. Challengers listen to the needs of the people they support and respond with appropriate activities – they also provide respite for the parents, which is invaluable.
“Our first impression of visiting the centre was one of total amazement of how all the needs of the young people had been catered for. Whether it is physical outdoor space, sensory room, soft play, craft room or kitchen, it is totally geared for their needs. It is also a really bright and airy space in a fantastic Guildford location.
“We have exciting plans for some fundraising events to collect funds as well as raise the awareness of their cause. In return, we hope that we can learn from them in terms of disability awareness and accessibility here at the Weyside. As part of our partnership we have invited Challengers Youth and Young Adult Services to visit the pub for social activities and hope to maybe even explore the possibilities of work experience placements.
“We have recently introduced a twice monthly quiz which is going from strength to strength, the proceeds of which are all going to Challengers. We are also organising a Murder Mystery Dinner with professional actors and a delicious 3 course meal designed by our chef. Part of the ticket sales will be donated to the Challengers. We are also in the process of organising a charity dog walk…. More about that soon!”
We are looking forward to working together with The Weyside to break down barriers to play for local disabled children.
