Fundraiser Tales: Kelly’s Storage Charity Events take on the Tour De Challengers
In this Fundraiser Tale, Kat Mack from Kelly’s Storage Charity Events (second from left) discusses how they got involved with Challengers and their participation in our Tour De Challengers event in July 2018!
How Kelly’s Storage got involved with Challengers
The first fundraising event ever held by Kelly’s Storage was back in 2010 & raised £30,000 every penny of which went to Challengers. Following that success we established Kelly’s Storage Charity Events. We pay for & organise events that provide fundraising platforms for charities. We also have our own registration website for each event and pay the transaction fees on all payments and by asking for voluntary entry donations, not fees charities can claim Gift Aid on the payments.
Challengers have seized the opportunity we provide and to date they have received over £300,000 from our events to help them continue & enhance the incredible work they do in our community. We have continued to work in close partnership with Challengers – we now put on two events a year for them, our entire company are ardent supporters and we hope to continue our successful relationship for many years to come.
How Kelly’s Storage got involved in Tour De Challengers
As well as organising our own events, we have a fun and committed staff team who are always up for a challenge especially if it’s for a good cause! We saw this was a cycling challenge which is right up our street, so several of us thought we’d give this a shot!
It was great to be able to join with other companies to reach a shared goal in aid of Challengers. Having the map of all the schemes was a great inspiration to keep pedalling – we were heading the long stretch from Chichester to Caterham but we did our best cycling over 30 miles as a team of 5 from Kelly’s!
It was great to be able to take part in an event as I’m usually on the other side, organising them! Challengers is a charity I am passionate about having worked their previously, so I love to do anything I can do to help them raise funds and awareness.
My colleague Andy Sercombe, Systems Administrator, also took part and said the following: “I heard about the Tour de Challengers and thought it sounded like fun. It was pretty hard work as I was determined to cycle the furthest in our team, but the main thing I enjoyed about it was doing something for a good cause, that’s important.”
What we’re up to next:
Our next event for Challengers is the Kelly’s Cross Country Challenge on Sunday 14th October. It’s a great event for serious runners as well as the family audience, with 5k, 10k and half marathon races as well as a kids event and two walks. Absolutely every penny raised in entry donations and sponsorships will go to Challengers so we hope lots of people will come and join us for what is going to be a brilliant event in stunning Loseley Park!
