Fundraiser Tales: The Blackley’s epic summer skydive

The Blackleys are taking to the skies this summer in aid of Challengers! In this Fundraiser Tale, Emily Blackley talks about how Challengers has supported their family and how they’re preparing for their epic challenge.

My family and I are taking to the skies this July to do something amazing and raise money for Challengers. We have always wanted to do a skydive and this seemed like a great year to do it – Challengers turns 40 and my mum turned 55!

Challengers is so important to our family because my younger sister Arianne goes to Challengers Youthschemes. She has been going to Challengers for around 10 years now and our whole family has become really involved because of how important it is to us. My mum is a Parent Ambassador and I work for Challengers in the Fundraising Team!

Arianne uses a wheelchair most of the time to get around and is non-verbal so it can be very difficult sometimes to communicate with her. She also needs a lot of help with daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, and feeding her, and she is doubly incontinent. Having Challengers as well as two amazing carers for her has made such a huge difference to our lives as a family. We know that she is having an incredible time playing with friends while we have the chance to do other things that we wouldn’t usually be able to, such as go on a long walk or to the cinema.

This will be our first time doing a skydive so we thought we would get some practice at an indoor skydiving centre. We loved it straight away so have done a few sessions to get used to the feeling and learn how to move around by ourselves.

We have fundraised before for Challengers as a family and definitely will again but this is probably our most daring challenge yet so we would love as much support as possible. If you are able to donate, please visit our fundraising page. Your support is greatly appreciated!

If you have always wanted to do a skydive or are looking for a new challenge this year, we would love for you to join us! You can book now on to the Challengers Skydive Day. The jump is on Sunday 28th July and it is taking place at GoSkydive in Salisbury.
