Coronavirus (Covid-19) Challengers Update

Important update orange background

It is with regret that we are closing all Challengers schemes for the foreseeable future, effective from 3pm on Thursday 19th March 2020, in line with the government’s most recent guidance.

This is due to the growing COVID-19 pandemic and concerns over the health and safety of children, families and staffWe are extremely sorry for the inconvenience that this closure will cause, however to continue our services would put vulnerable groups at unnecessary risk.

This closure will affect all schemes – Pre-school, Play, Youth and Young Adults – and we will not re-open schemes until it is deemed safe to do so. This will certainly be after the Easter Holidays, and bookings for the Summer Term will be put on hold until the current situation changes. We will also be cancelling many of our fundraising events due to take place in the coming months. All parents and staff have been emailed with further information.

This period of closure will have an unprecedented effect on Challengers’ financial position as a charity, so if you can afford to, we would hugely benefit from you choosing to make a regular or one-off donation during this time. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and will help the charity to navigate these uncertain times.

Challengers is a lifeline to thousands of families across the South, so we hope that you will choose to support us and help to protect the service for the future in any way that you can.

Many of our staff will be working from home in line with government advice so please direct any queries to our teams via email.

The health and safety of children and staff is our number one priority, and we believe that this is a necessary precaution that we must take to protect everyone.

We thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.

Kind regards,
Challengers Play & Leisure Team

We know it can be difficult for disabled children and young people to understand what the coronavirus is and how this affects them and the world around them. Here is our social story (PDF) that uses simple sentences and symbols which make it easier for everyone to understand.

Finance update

Our Finance and Operations team is currently cancelling all booked sessions which will automatically post credit notes to parent accounts.

This is likely to create a credit balance on many accounts and we greatly appreciate the significant number of parents that have expressed their wish to donate their balance to the charity at this difficult time.

Where a donation is made, the team will transfer the credit balance to Challengers’ donations account.

If you have any further questions regarding your account, please contact our Finance team by email: finance@disability-challengers.org

We are currently receiving a high number of emails so please bear with us while we deal with your enquiry. We will be sending an initial response explaining the steps we will take to deal with the query, and then a further email will be sent when we have actioned those steps. Please note that this is likely to be several working days later.

Please take a look our latest update from our Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Graeme Stretton.
