Challengers Star: January 2017

Charlie Major

Since 1979, Challengers staff have been working hard to make sure children and young people have an awesome time at Challengers! Every month, we shine a light on one of our Challengers stars. This month it’s the turn of Charlie Major (pictured above), who is one of our Service Managers.

What do you do at Challengers?
I am the Service Manager for the East side of our service. I work with some amazingly dedicated Project Officers and Leaders to manage the schemes that we deliver from Guildford all the way to Godstone! So my job can range hugely, and I make sure I spend time with the children and young people as much as possible.

What made you want to work at Challengers?
I have been at Challengers for almost 10 years now, when I started it was because a neighbour of mine told me I would fit right in with the Guildford Play Team after seeing the way that the Guildford Play Workers engaged and played with her son. A job where I was employed to play sounded too good to be true and so I had to give it a go! Since then I have worked my way through the organisation to the position I am in now, and have never forgotten how important play is!

What is your favourite thing about working at Challengers?
How can it be anything other than the awesome children, young people and families I have had the opportunity to meet and continue to work with? Mind you the office team aren’t bad either! Don’t tell them I said that though.

What keeps you up at night?
The tap dancers who live upstairs.

How would you describe the Challengers team in three words?
Supportive, positive and professional.

Challengers to me is…
