Challengers receives Simplyhealth donation

Challengers, a local charity supporting disabled children and young people across Surrey & Hampshire have been lucky enough to receive an incredible donation of £55,000 from Simplyhealth.

The donation has been given to enable Challengers to grow their young adult provision that supports ages 18 – 25. Disabled young adults are one of the least catered to groups in society and yet one of the most vulnerable. The schemes that Challengers run are vital as they offer these young people a place to make friends and socialise in a supportive and safe environment.

Caroline Holton, who applied for the grant, said: “We are over the moon to receive this money and cannot thank Simplyhealth enough, it will make a huge difference to Challengers and means that we can grow the young adult services we currently run meaning we can reach more families. The schemes are a fab place for young people to get involved with activities with the level of support they need. It also means that families can have a break from caring and spend time doing other things guilt free as they know their child is having a wonderful time at Challengers.”

Mark Hamson, Chairman of Simplyhealth Charitable Committee comments: We’re delighted to support an initiative that enables an often forgotten group of people to enjoy the freedom and opportunities so readily available to their non – disabled peers, such as a trip to the cinema or bowling. We look forward to hearing about these great experiences and most importantly, the fun that’s been had!”

Challengers are currently planning the extension of the young adult provision and will inform families in the coming months of what they can expect to see. If you would like to know more about Challengers or the Young Adult schemes email operations@disability-challengers.org or call 01483 579 390.
