Festive bikers join in Challengers Family Fun Day

Standard Thunder 2016

‘Standard Thunder’ consisted of 44 bikers traveling across the county to deliver some festive joy to Family Day at the Challengers Guildford Playcentre on Sunday 18th December. Each biker brought with them a donation to Challengers which totalled a fantastic £1,422.65 for the charity.

Beginning at the Royal Standard Pub in Camberley, the bikers gathered and set off on their quest across Surrey, arriving at Challengers at 2:45pm. Terry, who started Standard Thunder back in 2015, said: “It is this time of year that our thoughts naturally turn towards our own friends and family. As ‘Bikers’ we like to come together as a community and do everything we can to help others. We love to create a spectacle while simultaneously supporting those charities that do so much to help those who are considerably less fortunate than ourselves. Surely that embodies the whole spirit of Christmas.”

Challengers are a charity who provide play and leisure opportunities for disabled children and young people across Surrey, Hampshire & Berkshire. Over 1,400 families are currently supported by Challengers across 26 locations, one of which being Family Days which run on Sundays from the Challengers Farnham and Guildford Playcentres. Family Days run from 10:30am – 3pm for children aged 4-12 with their families and friends and cost £4 for each child to attend.

The £1,422.65 raised from Terry and all of his fellow Father Christmas’ will be going towards activities for the Spring Term at Challengers. Cader MacPhail, Community Fundraising Officer, said: “We have been so excited since Terry first contacted us about Standard Thunder, it’s just brilliant to be included in such a fantastic event. We are so grateful to Terry and the team for all the hard work they have put into organising the event and for the difference they are going to make to the families that Challengers support.”
