Philip Hammond joins Challengers at Business Club event

Philip Hammond speaking at Challengers Business Club

On Friday 14th July, 100 guests gathered at the beautiful Burhill Golf Club to hear from the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Philip Hammond. The Challengers Business Club held its second event of the year, bringing local business people together to network and have the chance to hear from the Chancellor and ask questions.

Challengers are a charity who provide play and leisure schemes for disabled children and young people in Surrey, Hampshire and the surrounding areas. Their Business Club brings together over 40 local businesses and hosts four networking events a year with first-rate industry speakers to share their business expertise and industry stories. This event was generously sponsored by Property House Marketing who delivers property PR and marketing to national and regional property developers, housing associations and property related companies.

Business Club Chairman, Derek Arden, welcomed the room before leading onto hear from Fiona Blackley, a Challengers parent Ambassador who spoke to the audience about how Challengers affects her and her family’s life. Laura Sercombe, Challengers CEO, then gave an introduction to Challengers, before moving onto Ian Blythe who updated the room about the current Business Club fundraising project, highlighting individuals who have raised money through various fundraising initiatives in 2017.

Derek then introduced Philip Hammond who spoke about the current affairs affecting businesses and warmed up the room with anecdotes from his career and experiences. The floor was then opened up to questions which saw such topics being discussed such as Brexit, productivity in financial services and the increasingly digitalised economy which encouraged a lot of interesting conversations throughout the afternoon.

Guests then proceeded to have lunch where there was the opportunity to network and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Burhill Golf Club. Susie Jewell, Corporate Fundraising Manager, said: “We are honoured to have Mr Hammond with us today and hear his insights into current affairs. It has been fantastic to have so many of our Business Club members and guests here today and we are hugely grateful to Mr Hammond, Burhill Golf Club for allowing us this beautiful setting for our event today, and Property House Marketing for their very generous sponsorship.”
