Challengers Star - April 2017

Since 1979, Challengers staff have been working hard to make sure children and young people have an awesome time at Challengers! Every month, we shine a light on one of our Challengers stars. This month it’s the turn of Katie Ledger (pictured above), who is one of our Community Fundraisers! If you’re wondering why there’s a meerkat on her head in the photo, do read on to find out why!

What do you do at Challengers?
I recently joined Challengers as the Community Fundraising Officer within the fundraising team. My job is to support our amazing fundraisers including community groups, schools, societies, supporter groups and individuals to spread the word of Challengers and manage these supporter relationships. I am here to help create a supporter journey from providing bright orange materials, running disability awareness workshops, attending events in the community to showing supporters around our centres – every day is different!

What made you want to work at Challengers?
Before joining the fundraising team I had spotted Challengers out and about within my local area at various events. My eyes were drawn to the bright, bubbly orange vibe and I was really interested to find out more! When the opportunity to work in the fundraising team came up I was so excited to apply.

What is your favourite thing about working at Challengers?
My favourite thing about working for Challengers is that every day is different. Not only is my team hugely supportive but I get to meet so many different types of people. I hear so many fantastic stories from supporters and the incredible children and young people we support. One day I will be attending a golf day, doing a presentation for a school to visiting a scheme’s animal day and having meerkats sitting on my head (see above!) or holding a giant snake (it was more fun than it sounds).

What keeps you up at night?
A typical reality TV series (woops)!

How would you describe the Challengers team in three words?
Welcoming, unique and inspiring.

Challengers to me is…
An amazing orange family!
